ISRO to set up weather auto record centres in Kodagu

Madikeri (PTI): ISRO on Sunday announced its plans to establish 15 ‘weather auto recording centres’ at Kodgagu district in Karnataka, each covering a radius of 50 km and requiring minimal maintenance.

Each of these centres would be provided with batteries and solar-run machinery, ISRO scientists told a press meet here.

ISRO Programme Director, Dr T G K Murthy, Assistant Director Dr B Manikyam and Scientist Dr Jagdish said the centres, each costing Rs 1.5 lakh, could run on their own for 15 days without any manual assistance. After a fortnight, some adjustments would have to be made to enable them operate for another 15 days, they said.

The weather reports from each centre would be directly sent through satellite and internet to the main offices in Hyderabad and Ahmedabad, he said.

The centres would provide weather forecasts of the next five days, they said.

Farmers and growers in Kodagu could avail the weather forecast from these centres through the various growers organizations and plan their productive activity in the field, they added.
