Poachers Arrested. Contraband Siezed

Kodagu Police Forest Squad sleuths arrested two persons who were attempting to sell three endangered species of tortoises near Sampigekatte on the outskirts of Madikeri. The arrested are B.P. Bhaskar and Udaya of Basavanapattana of Arakalagoodu taluk of Hassan. Another accused B.D. Harish is believed to have fled the scene. Police have seized property worth Rs. 5 lakhs including the vehicle used for the transaction.

Acting a tip off, Inspector R. Krishnamurthy and staff moved swiftly and apprehended the accused and the contraband. The accused admitted that they got the tortoises while removing the silt from a canal near Konanoor.
