Cauvery Sene delegation will meet the government for resolving the Jamma Bane issue. A meeting of the Sene held in Kodava Samaja building in Madikeri decided to approach the government before January 10. The delegation will comprise of senior advocates from the district.

The Cauvery Sene also decided to meet the Revenue Minister, Chief Minister and the Revenue secretary and convey the difficulties created by the circular. The meeting also decided to wait for a month to know the response of the government. The course of agitation will be decided later.

The meeting was addressed by senior advocate and president of Madikeri Bar Association, BJ Chinnappa who called for an apolitical approach to fight the government circular.

He also detailed about the land rules under Kodagu Rajas and British regime. P D Medappa, an advocate from Mysore came down heavily on the so- called intellectuals who are misguiding the common people on Jamma bane issue. He also said that the Jamma Protection Act was brought during the merger of Kodagu with the then Mysore state in 1956.

He said that any person who has been settled in government land for thirty years will automatically get ownership of the land. To say that people do not have rights over the land in which they had been settled for centuries does not make any sense, he said.

He said that these facts will be brought to the notice of the government. If the government does not take a favourable stand, then people should fight for their rights, he added. N Shambhu Somaiah, Ravindranath Kamath, KS Aiyyappa and Dr MM Chengappa spoke on the occasion.
