After a brief lull, heavy rains continued to pound Kodagu district leaving the Triveni Sangama in Bhagamandala and surrounding areas with many bridges submerged.

About 800 tourists have been reported stranded at Bhagamandala since Thursday.

With Bhagamandala recording a rainfall of 245.2 mm rains during the past 24 hours, the hopes of farmers of Mandya and Mysore districts, to whom river Cauvery is the lifeline, has received a big boost with prospects of reservoirs in the area filling to their brim.

Heavy rains lashing the district has resulted in a sharp rise in the Lakshmana Theertha river besides rain waters overflowing on the Bethri Bridge in Moornad posing threat of closure of Madikeri-Virajpet road.

Heavy rains have also forced the closure of Madikeri-Ayyengeri-Bagamandala Road besides blocking many roads in the district. Reports of falling trees and branches on houses in the district and damaging them have also come in.

Meanwhile, authorities, taking note of the possibilities of a flash flood in the river Cauvery have cautioned the people residing in low-lying areas to move to safer places.

It is said, authorities have deployed boats to ferry people in the rain-affected areas to safer places.

Many agriculturists feel that with the rains lashing Bhagamandala, the KRS reservoir will reach its brim in the next two-three days.

Reports of heavy rains pounding Dakshina Kannada and the Suvarnavathi bridge in Kukke Subramanya having been submerged have also come in.

Heavy rains lashing Shimoga district during the past two days has resulted in Tunga reservoir in Shimoga taluk reaching the brim at 588.24 metres besides resulting in a rise in the inflow of water into Bhadra reservoir in Bhadravathi taluk in Shimoga district.

Heavy rains have also forced closure of Bangalore-Mangalore road and authorities are making all efforts to restore normalcy on the National Highway.
