Mini-hydel projects in Kodagu opposed

MADIKERI: Former ministers M C Nanaiah, M M Nanaiah and MLC C S Arun Machaiah opposed the government decision to sanction few of the mini-hydel projects in the district.

Addressing the media in Madikeri, M C Nanaiah said Kodagu people should unite to oppose the project. He said that except BJP, all the other political parties were against the project.

He said he spoke to Karnataka Power Corporation, Renewable Energy Commission and Road Development Corporation Chairman Revanna who promised to take action. He criticised district in-charge minister for supporting the mini-hydel projects.

Nanaiah said that President’s visit was a special occasion and no agitation should be held. MLC C S Arun Machaiah said that according to Karnataka High Courts order only if all the concerned departments gave permission, the work would be started.

He alleged that the Forest Minister is favouring the projects, which will not be accepted by Kodagu people. Akila Kodava Samaja president M C Monnappa, Gowda Samaja president P Ananthram, Cauvery Sene convenor Ravi Chengappa, Kodagu Anekattee Virodhi committee secretary Raghu Machaiah, K Nidugane village Hitharakshana Samiti president Y D Keshavananda, Shanthoo Appaiah, MP Muthappa, Liyakat Ali and others were present.
