The menace is costing the genuine tourist taxi drivers their livelihood.
White board vehicles have been operating illegally as tourists vehicle in the district, alleged G.J. Soans, President of the Madikeri Tourist Taxi Owners and Drivers’ Association. He told reporters that according to the norms laid down by the Transport department, vehicles that do not have yellow boards, should not be considered as tourists vehicles, he further added that the Association has given a fortnights ultimatum to the district administration to set things in order. In Madikeri, there are 150 members with 100 vehicles with yellow boards as tourist vehicles, he added.
