According to the report in Deccan Herald, under the order of High level Working Group of Western Ghats (HLWG), the state govt has formed a new committee to identify and re-recommended listing of areas under the Eco-Sensitive Zones or Eco-Sensitive Areas(ESA).

The report has to be submitted within 60 days. The committee with tour all the districts which come under Western Ghats in Karnataka.

Last week, National Green Tribunal(NGT) had rapped the Forest Ministry  for the way it has proceeded on the issue. The new central govt has done way with Gadgil report and has reservations regarding the Dr. Kasturirangan Report.

A lot of confusion existed in Coorg regarding the implementation of the Dr. Kasturirangan Report, even a bandh was called by local politicians in Coorg. Major(Retd) Nanjappa had written about it.

The present committee is purported to elicit views from locals, politicians and NGO’s and then decide upon the inclusions of areas in ESZ.
