School and Road, in memory of a Martyr

The Indian Army Authorities have named a road (Major M. C. Muthanna marg) a recreation hall and a school (Major M.C. Muthanna Army Public School) after this great soldier, at Khanabal, Jammu and Kashmir. The Govt. of Karnataka with Madikeri Municipal Council have named a circle opp. Town Hall at Madikeri, Kodagu Dist., Karnataka after this great martyr.

Major M.C. Muthanna was born in Chettimani village (near Bhagmandala), Kodagu district on 21st April 1964.

He joined OTA, Chennai in Oct 1984 and was commissioned into the 5th Battalion the Sikh Light Infantry on 24th Oct 1985.

Major M.C. Muthanna was 36 years old when he made the supreme sacrifice.

He succumbed to bullet injuries in an encounter with terrorists on 12th Jan 2000, at Hq 1 Sector Rashtriya Rifles, Khanabal, Ananthnag Dist.

He was awarded the gallantry award, Shaurya Chakra for display of bravery of the highest order and determination, much beyond the call of duty.

Major Muthanna’s Statue opposite the town hall in madikeri will be unvieled shortly.
